針對反課綱學生林冠華輕生，毛治國再度表達最深的悲痛，他也呼籲社會大眾尊重家長的看法。針對立法院長王金平召集朝野協商，討論是否召開臨時會，毛治國說『未來如果有需要的話，我們會請教育部針對課綱的問題，向立法院做專案報告......』
毛治國說，課綱問題一出現，行政院最關切的是學生學習權益不能中斷，所以一開始就確立新舊課本並用、有差異部分不列入考試範圍，並且可以準備補充教材，讓學生知道差異在哪等原則；此外，未來課綱的討論修訂機制，希望能更公開透明，容納大家的意見『最後，我們也希望吳(思華)部長繼續跟社會各界用心溝通......』
